Cheryl Fernandez-Versini: Age Restricting UK Music Videos Doesn’t Make Sense

Next thing you know she’ll be banging down the door of number 10.

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini has criticized the new Government backed scheme to put age restrictions on music videos saying it’s pointless unless the rule reaches worldwide.

The law – passed to protect little eyes from raunchy music vids – is restricted to British made music videos meaning the likes of Rihanna’s Better Get My Money will still be on without any censorship.

Speaking to The Mirror’s 3am column, the X Factor judge said until the restrictions cover the US as well, the ruling is pretty much pointless.

“I don’t think it makes any sense. A lot of the raunchier videos come from over the pond, so it doesn’t make sense to restrict the UK. If they’re going to do it, they need to do it worldwide”.

Well, exactly. You can always trust Mrs F-V to inject some sense into the issue.

The 31-year-old went on to add that she isn’t worried about the scheme whacking a restriction on her videos as she’s never been one to raise eyebrows:

“I don’t think it will affect my videos though to be honest as I just don’t go overboard with my stuff, I’ve got younger fans and I’d never be brave enough.”

Earlier this year Cheryl talked about female popstars sexualising themselves in their music videos, saying: “The music industry is dominated by men behind the scenes. And older men, too. Sexy and all that is great to an extent but you shouldn’t have to sexualise yourself to be selling music.”

“I’m sure some women are naturally like that. They objectify themselves because they want to be like that. Which is fine. No judgment at all. But sometimes it’s just unnecessary.”

“And I get women who say, ‘Why should men objectify me? Why can’t I go naked?’ Do whatever you want. I just feel some of it is insincere, which is a little bit sad.”

Well, quite.
