Chiltern Railways on why they did not stop at Wembley for Taylor Swift's shows

Chiltern Railways were heavily criticized on social media after they confirmed they would NOT stop at Wembley Stadium for the recent Taylor Swift concerts.

The American superstar performed at the largest arena in the country on June 21, June 22 and June 23 as part of her Eras Tour.

In all, 227,000 people made the trip to North London to watch the musician in action, but some were left frustrated due to as the railway line revealed that due to ‘additional customers’ and ‘Network Rail engineering works’, stopping at  the stadium wasn’t possible.

In a June one day before the concert on June 21, they said: “We’re sorry we will not be stopping at Wembley Stadium for the Taylor Swift concerts on 22 & 23 June.

“We're carrying additional customers due to Network Rail engineering works between Birmingham & London Euston so sadly can't also support the concerts.”

Their announcement was met with much disdain by concert goers.

One person said: “I used to live in Switzerland.

“When there is an event they add carriages and trains, lined up with extra buses and trains-connections, and run later (or earlier) than usual to get people there and away.

“Our transport system is a joke.

“We need to modernise now.”

This person added: “Having travelled from Aylesbury to the City every day for 10 years, I finally decided to drive to Amersham and get the met line in due to the constant problems with your service.

“I wish I’d thought of it sooner.

“A third of the price and hardly any issues.

“Absolutely useless Chiltern Railways.”

This user said: “This is not acceptable, lots of people let down who have had tickets booked for months.

“It’s not as if it was only on you schedule a week ago.

“Extra trains are what is needed.”

Another person said: “This is poor.

“Why do you have these works between April and August when Wembley is used almost every weekend.

“Planned works for the other seven months of the year would make more sense.”

With the latter comment, Chiltern Railways did respond to the Facebook user.

They said: “Engineering works are planned roughly 18 months in advance, and have to consider the entire network, weather conditions, priority etc so unfortunately it is not always possible to please everyone as they works are required.”

A Chiltern Railways spokesperson said: “We are very sorry that Chiltern Railways trains did not stop at Wembley Stadium Station for the Taylor Swift concerts on the 22 and 23 June.

“Engineering works meant that the route between Birmingham New Street and London Euston was closed and thousands of additional customers used Chiltern trains for their journeys.

"We put on additional and longer trains as Chiltern were the only rail route operating between London and Birmingham. It was not possible to also run extra services for the concerts because we did not have the number of trains that would be needed.

“With multiple public transport options to get to Wembley Stadium, we had to take the difficult decision to not serve these concerts.

"Chiltern served the Taylor Swift concert on Friday 21 June with an enhanced train service and will also serve the Taylor Swift dates later in August.

"We apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
