Chris Eubank thinks he has worked out how Conor McGregor can beat Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match

Floyd Mayweather is widely regarded as the greatest defensive boxer of all-time, boasts a flawless professional record of 49-0 and has only ever touched the canvas once in his career.

In contrast, Conor McGregor has never been involved in a professional boxing match, has been ridiculed by the boxing community, and is priced as the 9/2 outsider with the majority of bookmakers.

But not only does Chris Eubank think McGregor can beat Mayweather on August 26 – he knows exactly how, too.

Eubank Sr, who held the WBO middleweight and super-middleweight titles and is ranked by BoxRec as the third greatest British supper-middleweight of all time, now trains his son, Christopher Jr.

And he thinks that he has worked out a winning strategy for UFC star McGregor, which he hinted he may be willing to share with the Irishman.

“If you did a poll of trainers on how to beat Mayweather I would be surprised if anyone came back with a winning strategy. I have the strategy but I am not going to tell you what it is," Eubank Sr. said in an interview with The Sun.

“I was very surprised [Saul Canelo] Alvarez was not given the correct strategy to beat Mayweather. How I think Mayweather can be beaten is for one person’s ears only — and that is McGregor.

“Would I tell him? Everything is possible, although really it’s not my place to give it to him, it’s for his trainer to come up with the strategy.”

Eubank Sr also praised the forthcoming fight between the two men, even describing it as “good for boxing”.

A number of boxing personalities have this week claimed that the fight will be a completely uncompetitive affair which will tarnish the reputation of the sport.

Three-time super-middleweight world champion Carl Froch described it as “a bit of a pantomime” while undefeated world champion Gennady Golovkin has this week dismissed it as a “circus show”.

But Eubank – who acquired a reputation as one of boxing’s great controversialists for driving around his home-town of Brighton in a monster truck and wearing jodhpurs, a bowler hat and a monocle to press conferences – disagrees.

In fact, he says he is hopeful that his son will one day get the chance to take on one of the stars of the UFC in a boxing ring.

“Everything controversial is good for boxing," Eubank added. “This fight between Mayweather and McGregor is making a crossover between MMA and boxing - they are the first to do it.

“I hope one day my son, Christopher, will be able to take part in a crossover fight and bring a UFC fighter into the boxing ring. The key word is ‘entertainment’. There are no negatives with Mayweather fighting McGregor as far as I’m concerned. It is good for boxing.

“The first martial art my son learnt aged around ten was jiu-jitsu so he can already wrestle. I’d have no concerns about Christopher boxing someone from MMA.”
