Chris Evans has candidly discussed his recent skin cancer ordeal, revealing he now cherishes the "proud scar" that remains after having a melanoma removed. The 58 year old radio presenter received the all-clear just eight weeks after being diagnosed last August, thanks to early detection.

Speaking on his Virgin Radio show in observance of Skin Cancer Awareness Month, he said: "I'm now sporting a proud scar. I've got my scar on the back of my calf."

He went on to express his fondness for the scar, stating: "I love my scar, because the scar led me to a sunnier tomorrow, and I'm still in that tomorrow today, and it's a wonderful place to be."

Evans, originally from Warrington, also highlighted the necessity of wearing sunscreen, quoting his dermatologist: "My dermatologist, she says from now on I always have to wear skin protection if any of my skin is naked because I'm so susceptible."

With the summer season on the horizon, he talked about taking extra care: "This is the first summer that I will have had skin cancer I don't have it anymore, thank God, and I am just covering up now.", reports the Mirror.

Preparing for a family getaway with new safety measures in mind, he shared: "We go on a holiday on Sunday, we're going to Portugal. And so my long-sleeve UV tops arrived, last night we tried them on. Is that all good? Because I still want to go swimming with the kids."

Evans reflected on how his attitude towards the sun has been shaped by his experience, admitting: "People who tan really well tend to not be as frightened of the sun as somebody like me has always been, obviously."

However, he now feels more at ease: "I'm not as frightened now, bizarrely, as I've been for years and years, because I'm forewarned and I know what to do."

Concluding, he said, "In a way, I'm relieved by it. I've made peace with it, if you like."

In a candid revelation to his Virgin Radio UK Breakfast Show audience in August 2023, Evans shared that he had been diagnosed with the early stages of skin cancer. He reassured listeners that it was caught swiftly, making it "as treatable as cancer can possibly be".

Just a month later, the radio host announced the fantastic news that he had been given the all-clear, a mere eight weeks after his initial diagnosis.
