Update: A few hours later, it seems the aftershocks are still creating chaos on the islands and for Teigen and Legend. Teigen posted an update asking the earth to “please stop.”

A powerful earthquake occurred off the coast of the Indonesian islands of Lombok and Bali at 6:45 p.m. local time on Sunday, and many learned of it on Twitter thanks to Chrissy Teigen.

“Oh my god,” Teigen wrote at first. “Bali. Trembling. So long.”

The model and cookbook author didn’t set out to be an international natural disaster correspondent. She had been in Bali on vacation with husband John Legend, 2-year-old Luna and 2-month-old Miles for about a week, when the quakes struck. Measuring at magnitude 6.9, with aftershocks reported at 4.9 and 5.6, the tremblor caused residents and tourists to flee their homes and hotels.

Teigen and family have been staying in a house on stilts, which is a great way to enjoy Bali’s beautiful water, but must not feel great in an earthquake.

“It felt like a ride,” she wrote. “15 solid seconds of ‘hooooooly sh– this is happening.’”

Teigen also happened to be in a bit of a compromising situation when it hit: undressed, which is how she feels comfortable when breastfeeding her baby.

“I very calmly walked outside clutching baby saying, ‘I’m naked. I’m naked. I’m naked.’ like a naked zombie,” she reported.

Then the aftershocks began. Terrifying.

“i’m either still trembling or these little quakes won’t stop,” she wrote, possibly explaining her Twitter updates by adding, “I’M TRYING TO BE NORMAL HERE.”

Before the quake struck, Teigen had been sharing bits of her island vacation with followers. She had an elaborate date-night dinner with Legend on Saturday night, and earlier on Sunday was exploring a toy store with Luna.

Last week, a magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck off the coast of Lombok, killing 14 people. Reports on fatalities for this quake are unconfirmed.
