Christopher Biggins says Princess Diana was 'one of the most glamorous women ever', revealing a very showbiz 'date' he went on with her to the Royal Albert Hall.

The I'm A Celebrity winner and actor — who has been in showbiz for more than 50 years — appeared on White Wine Question Time with Kate Thornton and explained how his friendship with Liza Minnelli led to him watching her perform with the 'extraordinary and sadly missed' Princess of Wales.

Biggins says Minnelli once invited to watch her perform at the Royal Albert Hall, asking him to accompany one of her friends to the live show.

"I went to the dressing room [at the Albert Hall], and we're laughing and having a drink, a glass of wine or something," Biggins recalled.

"Then suddenly, the door goes, and I go and open it. And standing there is Princess Diana, who is my date for the evening.

"So we all have a drink. And then they say to me: 'Look, you can't go in with the lights up. So we will dim the lights in the auditorium. And then you'll be taken to your seats on the front row of the stalls.'

"So we were standing there for about five minutes, and I'd met her once or twice before but this was up on a very personal level.

"And I said to her: 'I've just seen that wonderful picture of you and your boys on Britannia. You have your arms outstretched and kneeling down and they're running towards you. It's the most wonderful picture.'

"She said: 'Well, you've got to remember that they're the most important things in my life.' And that said a lot.

"Then of course, it became just the worst tragedy ever. She still is one of the most glamorous women ever. She's extraordinary and sadly missed."

Talking about his relationship with showbiz icon Liza Minnelli, Biggins says their friendship waxed and waned over the year, but his admiration for her as a performer never dimmed.

He said: "I spent three weeks in Las Vegas with [Liza Minnelli] when she was doing a show, we had the most wonderful time together.

"She was fantastic and still is. She's the greatest solo female performer I've ever seen. Forget Streisand, forget all the greats.

"She could do everything. She could sing, she could dance, she could act. She was just wonderful."
