Air fryers require regular cleaning to ensure their longevity, much like any other kitchen gadget.

Unlike the occasional deep clean needed for ovens or microwaves, air fryers should be scrubbed after each use. Yet, many find themselves tirelessly working to get their air fryer spotless.

However, there's a lesser-known trick that can save time and effort - dishwasher tablets. On the Mrs Hinch Army Cleaning Tips Facebook page, Ruth Hankey enquired about the effectiveness of this method on the kitchen appliance.

As reported by the Express, her post read: "Has anyone put a dishwasher tablet in their air fryer baskets, and left it to soak? Does the hack actually work?"

Several members of the group responded affirmatively in the comments, suggesting that this technique allows you to clean your air fryer in "five minutes" without any scrubbing. Charlotte Robinson shared her experience: "I do it all the time with hot water leave to soak and wash next morning."

Michelle McKenzie confirmed the hack's success, saying: "I have and yes it does work. It's also good for lots of burnt-on food. Add a dishwasher tablet to the basket. Five minutes without scrubbing required."

Jaqueline Mackie also recommended the method: "I use a dishwater tablet in it with boiled water. Pour out after five minutes before giving it a rinse."

These petite, concentrated blocks are ideal for breaking down stubborn marks, banishing stains and deodorising drains without the necessity of a vast array of cleaning products. Regarded for their ability to fight tough food and grease stains, it's little wonder that dishwasher tablets render themselves useful in cleaning air fryers as well.

However, other devotees of Mrs Hinch suggested that Ruth could simplify the process by using washing-up liquid. Sharing her thoughts, Rebecca Bacon said: "You don't need to. Just soak in Fairy Liquid [washing up liquid] after use then rinse."

Contributing her method, Louise Bishop advised: "They're non-stick so after every use, use a bit of washing up liquid and hot water. Leave to soak for 10 to 15 minutes. Pour out and rinse with water."

Meanwhile, Amanda Elizabeth shared her straightforward approach: "Just wash with washing up liquid and hot water in the sink. It's clean within seconds using a sponge and no faffing around, same with silicone liners."
