Cody Fisher killers could get more jail time in 'unduly lenient' review

Cody Fisher's killers could spend longer in jail after their sentences were referred to the Attorney General as 'too lenient.' The footballer was stabbed to death on the dancefloor of a Birmingham nightclub in a 'petty revenge attack.'

The 23-year-old was attacked by an armed group at the Crane nightclub in Digbeth on Boxing Day 2022. He died at the scene from a chest wound.

Remy Gordon, 23, and Kami Carpenter, 22, were convicted of murder. Gordon, from Rednal, received a minimum term of 26 years, while Carpenter, from Kings Norton, got a minimum term of 25 years at Birmingham Crown Court on April 8. But now Attorney General Victoria Prentis will consider if the sentences should be reviewed.

Her office received a referral under the Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) scheme, which is now under consideration. Rules allows a challenge within 28 days from the day of sentencing to decide if it was appropriate.

A spokesman for the Attorney General's Office told BirminghamLive: "I can confirm we have received a referral for ULS on this case but this is still being considered." If successful, the case would then be referred to the Court of Appeal.

Cody's girlfriend Jess Chatwin said her whole world was "shattered" after condemning his killers for attacking out of "jealousy and pride." The PE teacher, who had played for Stratford Town FC, Stourbridge Town and Bromsgrove Sporting, was knifed following a trivial altercation.

It was instigated by Gordon out of petty revenge after he accused Cody of pushing him the back at Popworld in Solihull two nights earlier. "He (Cody) was the love of my life, my friend and soulmate," said Jess. "Losing the person you love more than anything is a different level of pain.

"At 23 I have had my whole world shattered when my loving, caring and generous Cody was cruelly murdered. Not only have I endured the pain of Cody's loss the past 14 months, but I also had to deal with the horrific events of that night, witnessing him being attacked and holding him as he took his last breath and died in my arms.

"Seconds before that moment I remember turning around and looking at Cody behind me and he gave me the biggest smile full of love and happiness, now I question if that was his goodbye. The next time I turned around he was surrounded by those attacking him and I watched him fall to the floor, then reality struck that he had been fatally stabbed."

A third defendant, Reegan Anderson, 19, of Erdington, was cleared of murder, but found guilty of affray after being involved in the disorder that followed the murder. He was given a sentence of 18 months.
