Colin Farrell Is 'Calling the Shots', Has His Sights Set on the Falcone 'Empire' in New Teaser for “The Penguin ”

The actor, 48, reprises his role from 2022's 'The Batman' in an all-new Max limited series about the Gotham City villain

Carmine Falcone is dead — and The Penguin’s got his eyes on Gotham’s criminal underworld.

In a new teaser for The Penguin limited series, Colin Farrell returns as the titular Gotham City villain as he vies for a spot at the top of the food chain following the death of the city's crime lord, but Falcone's kids have other ideas.

"Carmine Falcone is dead, and I’m here now. I’ll be calling the shots," the Penguin tells Salvatore "The Boss" Maroni (Clancy Brown) while visiting him in prison as the teaser begins. "The Falcones are still licking their wounds. They’re distracted. Their business will be ripe for the taking."

Carmine's kids have their suspicions, though, as Al Falcone (Michael Zegen) asks the Penguin, "My father’s been dead a week – you wanna take what’s mine?"

His sister, Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti), has her own ideas too. "I'm the daughter of the Falcone don. But he's dead. And the family thinks I'm broken – I’m not broken."

Later, she tells her brother, "I refuse to let these old men push me aside again. So I’m gonna take from them now. And I’m gonna force them to their knees."

Carmine's nephew, Johnny Viti (Michael Kelly), tries to remind the Penguin that he works "for the family" and must "do as you're told." But obedience seems far from his mind, as he tells one of his partners in crime, Victor Aguilar (Rhenzy Feliz), "We gotta take whatever we decide is ours. Cause no one’s gonna give it to us — not without a fight."

As for what he's got planned, when Salvatore asks him, "What is it you're really after, Oz?" using the Penguin's real name, Oz Cobb, he replies, "I’m gonna tear down the empire from the inside out."

While there is no official synopsis for the series, other than the fact that it picks up after the events of 2022's The Batman — in which Robert Pattinson starred as the iconic DC superhero alongside Zoë Kravitz — it's set for a release on Max in September.

In March 2022, when the show was ordered to series, Farrell, 48, expressed his excitement at returning to the character after The Batman.

“The world that Matt Reeves created for The Batman is one that warrants a deeper gaze through the eyes of Oswald Cobblepot. I couldn’t be more excited about continuing this exploration of Oz as he rises through the darkened ranks to become The Penguin," he said in a statement.

Farrell added that it would "be good to get him back on the streets of Gotham for a little madness and a little mayhem."
