Traveller, 59, documents global adventures with world map tattooed on his BACK

Bill Passman has a novel way of listing his travel adventures - by colouring in a world map tattooed on his BACK.

Bill, 59, caught the travel bug after he got his first passport in 2006, aged 51 - and decided that instead of keeping track of his journey through a diary, he would record his experiences on his body.

In 2010, the former lawyer quit his job and got a map of the world tattooed across his back - vowing to spend nine months of the year seeing the world.

As Bill visits a new country, he has a tattoo artist fill it in on his map. The tattoo is currently more than 50 per cent covered, and he hopes to complete it one day.

His first trip was to Tanzania, where he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro - and in the last eight years, he has visited 60 different countries.

Bill, from Louisiana, USA, said: 'I got the tattoo as a way to show my passion for travel.

'It's a permanent reminder of all the amazing places I've visited.

'I'll be forever in pursuit of new sights and adventures, and I hope that I might be able to convince other people to give budget travel a chance.

'I gave up everything after getting my first passport in 2006, when I travelled to Tanzania.

'After I came back, I sold everything and have been traveling nine months a year since. I only go back to Louisiana to see my family.

'I did not have much money saved, nor did I know how to travel inexpensively - but I have taught myself and have even written a book about my experiences.'

Bill has travelled across Europe, North America, Asia, Africa, South America, Australasia and Antartica - but says his favourite country is Guatemala.

He added: 'I love so many countries - but all for different reasons.

'Nepal and New Zealand are just breathtaking but, my go to country, where I can not stop returning to is Guatemala, and I've been there 20 times since my first visit in 2010.

'They have "eternal spring" and the people are amazing.'
