What did you miss?

Colson Smith's acting friends have said he "isn't playing a game" after the star broke down in tears on Celebrity Big Brother (CBB) on Wednesday.

Overwhelmed with emotion, the Coronation Street actor choked back the tears after Levi Roots called him "boring" in one of the CBB tasks. He took himself away for a cry in the toilets and Nikita Kuzmin came to comfort him. Later, a tearful Smith opened up about his worries about being boring in the diary room.

Now his Coronation Street co-stars and friends Jack P Shepherd and Ben Price appeared on Good Morning Britain to throw their support behind him following the fallout of Wednesday's episode.

What, how and why?

Playfully Shephard said: "Now he's got the minutes of him crying on television. I think he's certainly..."

Price interjected to say: "He's a good guy, he's a nice guy."

Susanna Reid said: "Hang on, hang on. What are you suggesting?"

His two friends burst into laughter on the Good Morning Britain sofa. Price defended his friend saying: "He went off to have a cry. He didn't know he was on the camera."

Shephard pointed out: "He didn't go into the diary room to have a cry."

Price said: "He did at the end when they asked him to go in. But when he did it he went off. They got that moment on his mic, there weren't any pictures, he went off to have that moment on his own. I don't think it's a game. But now Colson to win!"

Good Morning Britain presenters Ed Balls and Reid had plenty of sympathy for Smith, with Balls expressing how he understood the pressure on the fly-on-the-wall series. "You can't talk to your friends and family," he said. "It would become too much."

Reid added: "I suppose what you're alluding to is also if Colson thinks the housemates think he's boring that means the viewers might think he's boring. And that is the ultimate thing, you are there to make a television programme. To entertain your audience, the last thing you want to think is that you're the one letting the side down."

Smith got upset when Dragons' Den star Roots quipped he thought the Coronation Street actor was boring before he overcome his fears of performing during the singing challenge. However, the Dragons' Den entrepreneur's words still hit a nerve with him.

The actor took himself off to go and have a cry in the toilets by himself but the moment was away from the prying eyes of the Big Brother cameras. Strictly star Kuzmin was the first housemate to throw his arms around the actor and give him a good hug.

"You're not boring, and we don't think you're boring," Kuzmin told his friend. "It's just one person's opinion."

Walsh also comforted Smith. He said: "It's fine. I'm glad that you're sensitive ... You're not like everybody else ... I think you're f***ing great. You're interesting, and you're not boring."

Later, Smith was called to the diary room and he got emotional talking about how being called boring brought back doubts he had in himself as a person. He told Big Brother: "Getting called boring has brought back a lot of the doubts I had in myself from previous times. I'm sure to everyone watching on the outside it's nothing and I look pathetic, but getting called boring, it just hits you like a bus."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1 & ITVX.
