Colvend picked a perfect day for its annual gala in the field behind the primary school on Saturday.

The event was timed to coincide with Colvend Produce and Makers Market over the road beside the shop.

Meanwhile, Spring Fling artists and creatives in the adjacent Colvend Public Hall were another big draw on what turned out to be a hugely successful occasion for all the family.

On the field, music from Colvend’s David Lennon and Dumfries Town Band, a bouncy castle, face painting, a burger stall run by husband and wife team George and Georgie Rennie and The Udder Bar from Roan’s Dairy all added to the festive feeling on the day.

Children’s sports, a tombola, a fire engine with a five-man complement from Dalbeattie Fire Station, a Dalbeattie and District Lions Club stall and exhibitions from the Nith Catchment Fishery Trust and the RSPB were among the other attractions.

Colvend and Southwick Community Council chairman Roddy Morris and Colvend gala committee chairman John Coates were among the volunteers helping out on a day blessed with good weather.

Mr Morris said shortly after the gala opened: “We are collecting funds, which will all go the community, and have a range of stalls and attractions which we hope will allow everyone to enjoy themselves.

“The community place plan is also here for people to see – it’s important to know what the community wants to do in the future/

“But the main thing everyone is here to enjoy themselves.

“The gala is a great way to bond the community together.”
