Staff and locals at a Swansea Valley pub had a bit of a shock when they realised that someone they thought looked a lot like a famous comedian turned out to actually be him. Micky Flanagan was out, although it wasn’t confirmed if he was “out, out” like in his famous joke, in the Butchers Arms in Alltwen near Pontardawe on Thursday night.

The star is one of the biggest names in British comedy, having amassed a huge following over the past 10 years or so to become arguably the UK’s most successful and in-demand performer. To get the latest What's On newsletters from WalesOnline, click here.

Catching a glimpse of him is actually quite rare as he famously only tours every five years or so. In fact, before 2023 (with extra dates added in 2024) his last stand-up tour was back in 2017, when he sold around 600,000 tickets, including 11 sold-out shows at London’s O2 Arena.

It was therefore a bit of a surprise for locals at the Butchers Arms to spot him in their boozer enjoying food and drinks on a table of six. The pub’s manageress, Lisa Miller, said staff kept saying that they thought the “man over there” was Micky Flanagan.

“I was convinced it was him, but we thought it can’t be," she said. "Staff were saying it looks just like him, so in the end one of the regulars went up to ask! He was really nice. He was more than happy when people wanted a photo. He was lovely, a real gentleman.”
