Compost and wildflower seeds up for grabs in green initiative

Watford residents are invited to collect free compost and wildflower seeds this month.

The event is part of an initiative to return organic materials as nutrient-rich compost to residents who have conscientiously recycled their garden waste, in a scheme organised by Watford Council and environmental partner, Veolia.

Wildflower seeds will also be available, encouraging biodiversity and wildlife within local gardens.

The compost and seeds will be available at Woodside Playing Fields Car Park, Horseshoe Lane, from 10am to 11.30am on Saturday May 11.

The compost supply is expected to be claimed quickly, and residents are advised to arrive as close to 10am as possible.

Proof of Watford residency will be required, and participants should bring their own shovel and bags.

Each household is permitted to receive up to two bags of compost.

Darren Harding, senior contract manager at Veolia, said: "We're delighted to be supporting the residents of Watford by working with Severn Trent Green Power to offer compost to the community.

"The compost is made from garden waste that is collected by Veolia crews and converted into the nutrient-rich material which enriches soil, allowing residents to enhance their gardens sustainably."
