Confirmed: Birmingham City agree deal with striker on first day of pre-season

Birmingham City have confirmed that popular striker Lukas Jutkiewicz has signed a new contract with the club.

Jutkiewicz has penned a new one-year deal with Blues to help the club get out of League One following relegation from the Championship last term. The 35-year-old will take his Blues career into a ninth season having first joined the club in 2016 from Burnley.

"It was just a question of getting it done," Jutkiewicz told Blues TV. "I think from the minute the season finished I wanted to get back here and look forward to the new challenge.

"Pre-season is key really, it is so important to hit the ground running. We are back in on Monday and it will be full steam ahead to make sure we are ready for the first game. So, it was incredibly important to get it all wrapped up."

Jutkiewicz scored three goals in 28 Championship outings last term, although he only started three matches in the league. He has scored 67 goals in a total of 331 appearances for Blues.

The ex-Middlesbrough, Coventry and Bolton forward will now join up with his teammates for their first week of pre-season under new manager Chris Davies. Blues players report to their training facility in Henley-in-Arden for fitness testing today.
