Aberdeen midfielder Connor Barron could be in for a surprise call-up to the Scotland squad.

Steve Clarke is set to announce his 26-man team for Euro 2024 next Wednesday, and it's believed that the young Don is being considered as an unexpected choice for Germany.

This comes after he made a strong impression during a disappointing season for the Dons, with Clarke's assistant John Carver having watched him play last Sunday when Peter Leven's team defeated Hibs 4-0.

The Scottish Sun suggests that Barron may have a chance of joining the team, and despite only making three appearances for Scot Gemmill's Under 21s, Barron could be quickly promoted to the first team.

The 21-year-old's contract at Pittodrie is due to expire soon, and he is expected to move to a new club. Record Sport has reported that Bologna is one of several Serie A clubs interested in Barron, reports the Daily Record.

If he is selected for the Euros, he could have a busy summer ahead, however, there's no guarantee that he will be chosen.

Ben Doak, another young player who has recently returned to fitness for Liverpool, is also thought to be in contention.
