Contestant talks himself out of winning £75K on The 100k Drop

A contestant managed to talk himself out of winning £75,000 on The 100k Drop, thanks to the indecisiveness of him and his teammate.

We’ve seen people throw away big cash builds on the recent reboot of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, but it appears the British public can’t help themselves elsewhere, too.

This week’s The 100K Drop – the spin-off from The Million Pound Drop – saw self-confessed ‘superfan’ Simon compete to take £100,000 home. He’d also seen the show live three times, so what could possibly go wrong for him?

Well, everything, it would seem.

‘The name of which pasta sauce derives from an Italian phrase literally meaning “in sailor’s style”?’ read the question.

Quizzing partner Maggie disagreed when he insisted the answer was Marinara, which prompted him to doubt himself.

Host Davina McCall couldn’t look, after Simon and Maggie were unsure of the answer and switched from a sure thing to splitting up their cash between two they were unsure of.

In fact, Maggie put so much doubt into his head that the pair opted to eliminate Marinara from their answer option altogether – instead, splitting their cash between Puttanesca and Carbonara.

With £27,500 on Puttanesca and the remainder of their cash on Carbonara, things went downhill quickly when the former answer dropped, literally throwing away almost £30,000 in a few seconds.

The remainder of the £100,000 that was now hinged on Carbonara also dropping moments later.

Ouch.
