A new trailer for Ava DuVernay's A Wrinkle in Time was unveiled during last night's American Music Awards (November 19).

And the good news is, there isn't a second of it we don't just absolutely adore.

Backed by the Eurythmics' 'Sweet Dreams', the trailer begins with Dr Alex Murray (Chris Pine) waxing lyrically about the wonders of the universe, before it's revealed the entire universe is in danger, as well as Dr Murray himself.

It's then up to his daughter Meg (Storm Reid) to travel through space and time to save him, under the guidance of everyone's favourite spiritual guru Oprah Winfrey, who plays Mrs Which.

"Your father has accomplished something extraordinary," she says in the trailer. "But also, dangerous."

"He's trapped by a darkness that's actively spreading throughout the universe, and the only one who can save it, is you."

And so, our quest begins.

Alongside her pal Calvin (Levi Miller), Meg sets about exploring the universe, first bumping into Mindy Kaling's Mrs Who and then Reese Witherspoon's Mrs Whatsit.

After some dramatic turns, which include Calvin plunging through the sky and Chris Pine looking more and more terrified, Oprah offers yet a few more pearls of wisdom.

"You're going to be tested every step of the way," she says. "Trust nothing."

We also get a blink-and-you'll-miss-it look at Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Meg's mum, although we don't see anything of Zach Galifianakis (who plays The Happy Medium) quite yet.

Previously, DuVernay called Winfrey's casting in the movie a no-brainer: "I mean, when you're trying to cast the wisest woman in the world, what's the question?

"You go and you call her and you're glad that you have her number on speed dial," she joked.

The director has also explained that it was important for her to reframe the narrative of the 1962 story with a diverse cast, including giving the lead role to African-American actress Reid.

A Wrinkle in Time is released in US cinemas on March 9, 2018 and UK cinemas on March 23, 2018.
