Cornwall House Blast Suspicious, Police Say

Police say an explosion at a house in Cornwall is being treated as suspicious.

The blast at the terraced house happened late on Tuesday night when the external walls of the property in the town of Camelford were blown out, leaving the top floor and roof unsupported.

A 68-year-old man who was pulled out of the rubble is being treated in a specialist burns unit.

After the blast, a spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "The only occupant of the house was helped from the debris by local residents and the fire service and taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital.

"He is believed to be in a stable condition and his next of kin have been informed.

"No one else was injured despite the houses next door and nearby cars being damaged by the blast and flying debris."

Anyone with information about the explosion is asked to contact Devon and Cornwall Police on 101, quoting incident number 892 of September 1.
