Coronation Street actress Jane Danson has confirmed that Henry Newton star George Banks is leaving the soap.

Danson, 39, who plays Leanne Battersby, took to Twitter yesterday (July 10) to wish Banks luck for the future and hopes he will one day return to the Cobbles.

She wrote: "Wishing one of the loveliest actors i know @1GeorgeBanks lots of love and luck for the future, a true gent and a fab actor! Hope you come back to the cobbles soon."

Georgia Taylor, who plays Danson's on-screen sister Toyah, also shared an emotional farewell message to Banks.

She wrote: "Two people I'd ALWAYS want on my team. Love ya @RealJaneDanson and our gorgeous @1GeorgeBanks xx"

Banks has returned for a guest stint as his character attempts to win back Dolly Rose Campbell's Gemma Winter. He previously dated her for a bet, but ended up falling for the kebab shop worker.

Gemma is left devastated after she discovers the truth about Henry, but by the time he discovers his true feelings it's too late.

Henry doesn't exactly get the warmest of welcomes when he returns for Gemma this week. It seems that Henry could have a reunion on his mind, but when Gemma angrily confronts him with a brush, it's pretty clear that he'll have a fight on his hands to make that happen.
