Coronation Street spoilers have confirmed a controversial new storyline for Toyah Battersby that has already been objected to by fans. It's been revealed that Toyah, played by Georgia Taylor, that she gave birth at 19 to a stillborn baby girl.

In the devastating scenes, viewers will discover that Toyah Battersby buried her stillborn baby in a park after being raped 23 years ago. And so Toyah will be left fearing the worst when she finds out that the land will be dug up and her secret discovered.

Long-time viewers of the ITV soap may know that in 2001, Toyah was on a night out with Sam Kingston, played by Scott Wright, and went on to walk home alone, but was attacked and raped by an unknown assailant. She was found by Jason Grimshaw, portrayed by Ryan Thomas, who helped her get back home.

Toyah later gave a statement to police and was examined at the hospital, with several male residents pinned as suspects. She struggled in the aftermath of her ordeal and developed agoraphobia as a result. When later comforted by her friend Phil Simmonds, played by Jack Deam, she recognised his voice and came to the horrifying realisation that he was the one who raped her.

When he figured out she knew, Phil stopped her from leaving, but Toyah was saved by Peter Barlow who heard her screams and knocked Phil unconscious. Phil was later found guilty of the rape and sent to prison while Toyah went on to leave Weatherfield after reuniting with Spider Nugent and the pair moved to London.

Next week, Corrie spoilers have revealed that Leanne Battersby will FaceTime Rowan to tell him about Toyah’s negativity towards the Institute and Rowan urges her to immediately distance herself from her sister. As Toyah searches the park for Roy's dog Freddie, she comes across three sleuths digging up a rose bed who reveal that they saw Freddie digging in the same place, so they reckon Roy may have buried Lauren’s body there.

After hearing this, Toyah see’s red, picks up a shovel and smashes their car window whilst one of the sleuths film her on his phone. Nick Tilsely soon arrives and persuades Toyah to put down the shovel as she bursts into tears. Having returned home, Toyah rails at an upset Sam Blakeman for losing Freddie in the first place.

Soon after, the police call at Victoria Court looking for Toyah. Toyah calls in the flower shop and purchases a single yellow rose and when solicitor Joel Deering asks who it’s for, Toyah says it’s for Leanne.

Later, Nick desperately tries to keep the peace between Leanne and Toyah. When Joel asks Leanne if she liked her rose Toyah bought her, Leanne’s bemused and quizzes Toyah on it who makes out she binned it. Toyah remains adamant she was right to defend Roy’s reputation and to stop the sleuths from desecrating such a special place as Nick’s puzzled by her choice of words.

When Nick returns home, he finds Toyah in tears as she reveals that at 19 she gave birth to a stillborn baby girl, she kept it a secret and she buried her in the exact same place in the park that she found the sleuths digging up. Toyah takes a deep breath and admits to Nick that the baby’s father was Phil Simmonds, the guy who raped her.

Simon Barlow then returns home and oblivious to the tension, tells Nick and Toyah that the police are digging up North Cross Park and Bobby reckons they’ve found a body.

The new storyline was teased last month and at the time, Corrie fans spoke out against the shocking twist. Former Corrie cast member Vicky Entwistle has criticised producers over a controversial storyline involving her on-screen daughter, with her having played Toyah's mother Janice Battersby on the ITV soap opera from 1997 until her departure in 2011.
