Coronation Street has bid farewell to another of its iconic characters as Aggie Bailey, played by actress Lorna Laidlaw, has reportedly left the ITV soap.

Earlier this week, The Sun reported that Lorna had quietly exited the Manchester-based show, over a year since her last appearance. Lorna, who previously starred in Doctors, first graced the cobbles as Weatherfield General nurse in 2019 and was last seen in the summer of 2023, reports the Mirror.

Her character missed several key storylines involving her on-screen family, the Baileys. In recent storylines, Aggie and her husband Ed faced significant marital issues due to his escalating gambling addiction.

Their son Michael was also wrongfully arrested, accused of collaborating with serial killer Stephen Reid to defraud the Underworld factory.

Aggie's absence from the screen was attributed to her leaving Weatherfield to care for a sick aunt in Birmingham. While viewers anticipated her return, no mention was made of Lorna Laidlaw's off-screen plans.

The Sun has now revealed that chances of a comeback are slim, as the actress has joined the cast of Channel 5 drama The Good Ship Murder. The show has been renewed for two more seasons and a Christmas special set to air later this year.

"Lorna is a hugely talented actress and it's a great gig to land", an insider revealed to the publication, "the show films in beautiful Malta and the cast and crew are a close knit group so it's a really great atmosphere to work in."

This revelation comes amidst fan theories suggesting Aggie could make a comeback to the cobbles ahead of her daughter Dee-Dee's wedding to Joel Deering, who harbours some dark secrets from his future wife as he was responsible for Lauren Bolton's disappearance and alleged murder. The Daily Mirror has approached ITV for a statement.
