Well-known former Coronation Street actress Vicky Entwistle has taken to social media in a desperate bid to locate teenager Jay Slater - who mysteriously vanished while holidaying in Tenerife. The star, who famously portrayed Janice Battersby on the soap, is closely connected to the family and is leveraging her public prominence to maximise awareness of Jay's disappearance, hoping it might assist in his safe return.

In an emotionally charged social media post, which displayed a missing person flyer, Vicky shared: "My God Mother's Grandson has gone missing. His Mother has flown out 7pm. To join the police search. Hope to God they find him. Please pray for him."

The Lancashire lad, just 19 years old, went missing on Monday after making the trip to the Spanish isle for a music festival. Before he disappeared, Jay had attended a rave on Sunday night, subsequently joining a duo of newfound friends for drinks at their remote flat, reports the Express.

His last known contact was a phone call to a friend on Monday morning, during which he revealed that he was lost, parched, and his mobile battery percentage was perilously down to one per cent.

An impassioned plea from Vicky about her missing relative Jay rapidly gained traction online, sparking an outpouring of supportive messages from the digital community. One worried supporter remarked: "Saw this on Facebook Vicky, it seems to be getting shared far and wide, hopefully there will be some good news imminently with all the love and support out there, just makes it so much harder when abroad! Love and prayers for you all."

Another person offered to help, commenting: "We are in Tenerife if we can help in any way let us know." Since then, Jay's phone has lost power. His last known whereabouts were pinpointed near Teno Rural Park in the north-west of Tenerife, not far from a well-trodden hiking path.

The search for Jay has garnered an overwhelming response, with a Facebook group dedicated to finding him amassing nearly 100,000 members who share updates and coordinate search efforts. Volunteers are preparing to resume the search on Wednesday morning. Local authorities have already deployed expert mountain search teams, drones, and helicopters in their efforts to find the missing teenager.

A spokeswoman for the Civil Guard in Tenerife highlighted the critical nature of the search, confirming that every possible resource is being used, including mountain rescue teams and police helicopters, focusing on the area around Masca village. She stated: "A specialist Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group called the Greim have been mobilised.

"A police helicopter is also out and focusing on the area around the village of Masca. Other emergency services including firefighters have also been mobilised. Everything possible is being done to try to find the missing man."
