Coronation Street stars appear to confirm off-screen romance with heartwarming selfie

Coronation Street stars seem to have confirmed their romance after a sweet birthday selfie was posted on Instagram.

Rumours of a romance between Georgia Taylor and Charlie de Melo have been circulating for a while. The couple were married on-screen before Charlie's character Imran Habeeb died last year after his wife Toyah crashed the car they were in.

In the Instagram post, Georgia posted a photo of her feet atop Arthur's Seat — an ancient volcano in Edinburgh, Scotland – as well as one with her former co-star. She captioned the pictures: "Birthday treat up Arthur’s Seat."

Jane Danson, who stars as Toyah's sister Leanne on the soap, commented: "Happy birthday sis. Hope you had a lovely day."

While Millie Gibson, who played Toyah and Imran's foster daughter Kelly, wrote: "Ahhh you two," with two heart emojis.

Last year, Georgia, who recently shared a hair transformation, opened up about her long-term future on Coronation Street following a year of intense storylines.

Georgia spoke about loving the intensity of the storyline involving Imran's death and how it abled her to show a side to Toyah we don't usually see.

"I've absolutely loved it, I've been crying out for this for about two years. Not this specific storyline but something like this that is textured and complicated and multi-faceted," she said.

"I've spoken about this but I think I had a couple of years where Toyah was very passive, very forgiving, I felt like she became a little bit of a doormat and I just wanted to see her get a bit of fire back and a bit of spark."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
