Coronation Street's Ciarán Griffiths on future of Damon and Sarah story

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Damon Hay and Sarah Barlow's secret hotel fling causes a real problem for the latter, according to Corrie actor Ciarán Griffiths.

In next week's scenes, married Sarah gives in to temptation after being saved by ex-inmate Damon during a business pitch. However, his fantasy of carrying on their romance isn't reciprocated.

"After what's happened at the hotel he's got something over her now and he's a bit more sure of himself," revealed Shameless star Griffiths of the aftermath.

"He thinks it's going to carry on, in his mind he thinks this is going to be a lot of fun whereas in her mind she's like this stops now, you're making it too obvious.

"He's loving all the innuendos, the little looks and winks when people aren't looking but that's making her feel very uncomfortable. In his head he thinks she's going to be loving it like him, he's finding it hilarious."

Given Sarah's unwillingness to repeat her infidelity, does this not just motivate Damon even more to convince her otherwise?

"He's definitely determined, there are a few times when he says I won't bother you again, but I think that's all part of the game," explained Griffiths.

"It's like when you're a kid and you find out that someone fancies you and you say you're not interested, but as soon as you find out they don't fancy you anymore you're a bit disappointed, it's like that game. He's loving the chase."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
