Yahoo News Coronation Street's Elle Mulvaney discusses Amy and Aadi romance

Coronation Street star Elle Mulvaney has weighed in on a romance between her character Amy Barlow and Aadi Alahan.
The ITV soap will explore a romantic connection between the two teens as Aadi's relationship with Courtney Vance comes to an end. As for Mulvaney, she thinks viewers will be elated to see Amy and Aadi together.
"I think we all hope so," Mulvaney said about Amy and Aadi being more than friends. "As a viewer watching, we're all rooting for them because everyone can see that they've got a great friendship, they're so similar and share a great sense of humour with their one liners."

She continued: "The McDonalds and the Alahans are both iconic families so I think as viewers, everyone wants them to get together, but whether or not it's the right time for Amy, is another question."
In new scenes, Aadi, played by Adam Hussain, offers his support to Amy in the aftermath of her sexual assault ordeal at the hands of Aaron Sandford (James Craven).
"As much as Amy has fancied him for quite a long time, the challenging part will be how a rape victim overcomes the fact that she has been raped and how she discovers a way to be intimate with people again," the soap star explained.
"That will be something which is really interesting to explore on screen because anybody who has read anything about rape or knows any rape victims knows that it's no straight path to recovery. It's very difficult for people who've had something like this, which is so traumatic, happen to them, to become fine again and become okay with being intimate with somebody. Even the idea of being in a relationship with somebody again is really, really challenging."

Coronation Street has been working with the Schools Consent Project on Amy's sexual assault to make sure to portray her storyline sensitively. Meanwhile, Corrie producer Iain MacLeod teased a new story for the teen, expected to go to "extreme lengths" trying to process what happened to her.
"She feels that she's acting in an entirely justified way," MacLeod told Digital Spy and other media. "But it will fall to one of her friends to pull it back from the brink before she criminalises herself essentially, in a pursuit of what she believes to be a just outcome."
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
