Coronation Street has revealed that Michelle Connor won't approve of her son Ali Neeson's new romance.
Show bosses have announced that Ali (James Burrows) will become a new love interest for Maria Connor, after the barber shop boss has endured a disastrous experiment with online dating.
New Coronation Street spoilers on the show's official website have now confirmed the first major obstacle standing in the new couple's way – Michelle's anger.
Later this week, Maria shares a kiss with Ali at her flat after he comforts her following another bad date with someone she met online.
Scenes airing next week see a hesitant Maria try to forget about Ali, favouring another online date instead.
When this also goes wrong, Maria decides that she's had enough of dating and does a runner from the Bistro, much to the despair of her latest match.
Maria turns her attention back to Ali as they spend more time together, but an unhappy Michelle soon wades in by sharing some harsh home truths.
Could Michelle's frosty attitude mean that Maria and Ali's relationship is over before it's even begun?
Samia Longchambon, who plays Maria, recently explained: "They have this kiss, so there is something simmering. But it's more whether Maria can act on it as she doesn't want to upset Michelle. Ali is Michelle's son, so it's all quite close to home."
Asked whether they're a good match, Samia replied: "I think so. They're both single for a start, so she's not starting off her usual way which is to have an affair! Ali seems to really like her and he's not bothered by the fact she's got Liam. We'll see."
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
