Coronation Street's Rob Mallard hints at possible split for Daniel and Daisy

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street star Rob Mallard has hinted that the latest events on the show could be "relationship-ending" for Daniel Osbourne and Daisy Midgeley.

Viewers will know that Daisy has secretly been sending Ryan Connor messages posing as Crystal, the subject of Ryan's affections, after she learns that the real Crystal wanted nothing to do with him after his acid attack injuries.

While she has been using the deception to try and lift Ryan's spirits, Daisy risks being exposed next week after Daniel (who is unaware of what she's doing) unwittingly gives her phone to Max Turner at the Secure Training Centre, where the teen records a video diary.

Suspicions are raised when Daisy demands her phone back, Rob explaining of his character's oblivious reaction: "Daniel is really confused, because he’s not sure what the issue is.

"Daniel thinks that Daisy is overreacting, and he thinks she is reacting this way because she is concerned for him because he shouldn’t be giving a phone to Max and it’s against the rules. Daniel is not aware that there is an ulterior reason for the way that Daisy is reacting."

The actor explained that "Daniel is naturally going to be jealous" over the amount of time Daisy and Ryan are spending together, "like anyone in that situation".

"He feels very confident and comfortable in his relationship and Daisy does make him feel secure in the relationship, but at the same time he knows that Ryan and Daisy were once an item, albeit briefly, and so there is always that worry that she might think that the grass is greener and jump ship," he said.

Things take a dramatic turn when Ryan, who is getting increasingly ill, records a message for 'Crystal', and as Max has the phone, he sees that Ryan has taken a bad turn.

Speaking about what Daniel's reaction would be if he learnt from Max about the voice message, Rob suggested: "Initially Daniel would be concerned for Ryan, but then immediately afterwards Daniel would begin to think, 'Why is Daisy Ryan’s first port of call for this?'

"You go to your significant other for things like this, so Daniel would start to think that Ryan and Daisy may be too close. His suspicions would grow, and his jealousy would become harder to ignore."

Speaking further about Daniel's possible reaction to finding out about Daisy's plot, he noted that "if Daniel had been in on it from the beginning, he would have felt included and he would be clear on what Daisy’s intentions are".

"But if he finds out now, he is going to be very suspicious and it’s going to change the dynamic of their whole relationship. It’s going to make Daniel think that maybe he has to compete more against Ryan for Daisy’s attention. It could be relationship-ending," he added.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
