Coronation Street's Rob Mallard warns of stalker Justin's revenge after punch-up

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Rob Mallard has warned that Daniel can expect a revenge plot from Justin following their showdown in Coronation Street.

During Wednesday's (March 8) episode, Justin once again put Daniel and Daisy's wedding in jeopardy by convincing the venue to cancel over his allegations of assault.

While Daisy was still processing the heartbreaking news, she was confronted in her home by Justin delusionally claiming it was time to discuss their own wedding.

Daniel arrived home just in time to call police. While Justin was cited, Craig explained to Daisy and Daniel he could only charge the stalker with trespassing.

At the pub later on, Daniel noticed Justin lurking and confronted him face to face. When Justin crudely suggested Daisy would be better off with cancer than marrying Daniel, he was punched in the face.

Rob Mallard has spoken about the dramatic scenes in this latest episode, expressing hope that viewers will understand why Daniel attacked Justin.

"It's nice to see characters like Daniel doing things that aren't necessarily wholesome all the time, and I like the mixture of both sides of him because I think you need a bit of both," he said.

"I think the viewers will think: 'Well, it’s about time that you did something! You should have done that weeks ago!'”

As for whether Daniel can expect revenge from Justin, the actor said: "Yes 100%! There is something quite unassuming about Justin, the things that he says and the way that he explains the reasons that he does things are actually quite simple. It's not complex: He wants Daisy, he wants to be with Daisy and he wants Daisy to leave Daniel.

"For Daniel, he doesn’t think that Justin is hiding anything, as he is very upfront about what he wants, but what Daniel has underestimated is what lengths Justin will go to to get what he wants."

While the scenes were extremely tense on-screen, Rob actually enjoyed the experience of filming a fight scene on the cobbles.

"It was good fun," he said. "I've not had the chance to do anything like that for a while, so it was nice to do something physical.

"We had a fight arranger and a great director, and it was shot on the street at night, and I always think the street, the cobbles and the show looks its best at night… especially if it's a little bit rainy! We all had a great time shooting it. Those scenes are always fun."

He went on to say: "The aspect that I most look forward to is, if it's a punch, it's whether or not I can make it look really realistic.

"So when I am able to make a non-contact punch look like it did make contact, that's when I go: 'Oh, this is fun!' The most challenging thing about doing stunts is making sure I don’t lose my focus."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
