The UK has recorded the highest number of coronavirus deaths in one day after another 87 people died, bringing the total number of lives lost to 422.

Latest figures from the Department of Health say 90,436 people have been tested for coronavirus, with 8,077 being positive.

The news came as there were warnings that tighter restrictions may be brought in if the public flout Boris Johnson's coronavirus battle plan.

A new temporary hospital will open at the ExCel Centre from next week, Matt Hancock has announced. NHS Nightingale Hospital will comprise two wards and the ability to hold up to 4,000 patients.

"With the help of the military and with NHS clinicians, we will make sure that we have the capacity we need to make sure everyone can get the support they need," he said.
