Corporation Bridge roadworks sign washes up in Denmark as Council gives update
A group of beach cleaners in Denmark were amazed when they came across a rusty sign for Grimsby's Corporation Bridge roadworks.
The bridge has been closed since February 6 last year. At some point, one of the road signs alerting drivers to the bridge closure in Grimsby appears to have travelled 600km across the North Sea to Bækbygård beach in West Jutland, Denmark.
It was found by Asli, 30, an English teacher from Turkey, who saw the edge of the sign and then dug it up with the rest of the group. They were working together on a multinational sustainability project funded by the EU called 'There’s No Planet B' with high school students from Denmark, Portugal, Greece, and Turkey.

The sign was "a bit worn out but still in one piece", said the organiser. They joked: "We found your sign in Denmark at the beach, do you need it?"
Meanwhile, North East Lincolnshire Council has provided an update on the roadworks and given notice for closures of the footpath in May. In a statement, it said: "Engineering works to the 100-year-old Grade II listed structure, Corporation Road Bridge, are continuing.
"The steel work repairs are ongoing to both sides of the bridge deck. Primer and coatings of paint are also being applied to sections of the bridge along with the required preparation works and inspections.
"Control room works are in progress and all rotten timbers are now being replaced and corroded steels are being removed. Taking advantage of anticipated low tide levels in May, workers will continue the mechanical preparation works to the underdeck of the bridge. This will involve weekend working.
"Footpath closures are also required whilst works are undertaken adjacent to public areas to ensure the safety of both the public and the contractor. Footpath closures will take place between 9am and 4pm each weekday.
"The footway will remain open during the weekend working dates. Temporary signs will be in place for the footway closures."
