Pat Phelan's reign of terror has shown absolutely no sign of stopping, as the cobbles' most ruthless villain chose his latest victim in tonight's (October 23) Coronation Street.

Following a tense showdown with his former partner-in-crime Vinny Ashford, it was only a matter of time before Phelan followed up their unwelcome reunion by exacting revenge.

And what better way to punish a former "mate" for betrayal? Why, by throwing them in that dingy cellar of course.

Although we haven't actually seen Vinny enter the cellar, Phelan announced to Andy Carver, who's currently being held hostage, that he would soon be meeting his "replacement".

But that's not all – Phelan was also kind enough to stir up animosity by lying to Andy that Vinny was behind his father figure Michael Rodwell's death.

Teasing an even "darker" future for his character, Connor McIntyre recently revealed that while Phelan is sinking pretty low at the moment, it will probably get worse.

"When Phelan makes his final decision about his hostages, it's the darkest side we've seen of Phelan to date," he recently hinted.

"But he can go darker, I am sure of that. If you cross a particular line, that's it. So can he get darker? Yes, certainly."

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
