Coronation Street will air hard-hitting scenes in tonight's double bill as Robert Preston gets the cancer diagnosis he was dreading.

Robert's emotional story kicked off last week when his girlfriend Michelle (Kym Marsh) told him she'd felt a lump in one of his testicles and urged him get it checked out.

But having spent the last few days in denial, Robert (Tristan Gemmill) is unable to bury his head in the sand any longer when the doctor confirms his worst fears in Wednesday's episode (November 22).

Robert reels after hearing that his lump is most likely malignant and the bad news keeps coming when he learns that they will have to remove his testicle as a result.

Unable to process the news, Robert refuses to accept the diagnosis and causes concern among the medics when he won't agree to treatment straight away.

With the doctors warning Robert that he needs to have the operation as soon as possible, it's clear that he has some serious thinking to do as he keeps Michelle in the dark over what he's been told.

But how long can Robert really ignore the fact that he needs urgent treatment? And will he ultimately decide to confide in Michelle?

Coronation Street airs these scenes tonight at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
