Yahoo News Corrie lining up dramatic return for Martin Platt?
Coronation Street might soon be surprising viewers with the return of a long-lost member of the Platt clan.
Soap bosses are lining up a shock return for Sean Wilson as the fan favourite character Martin Platt later in the year, according to The Sun.
Wilson will apparently be reprising his role for a very brief stint this spring as part of a highly-publicised storyline for son David (Jack P. Shepherd), in which David grapples with the aftermath of being raped.
Digital Spy reached out to representatives for Coronation Street for comment on rumours of Sean Wilson's return, but the show declined to comment.
The 52-year-old actor was a mainstay on Corrie for 20 years, first appearing as then-teenaged Martin Platt all the way back in 1985. Through the years, he's been caught up in murders, love triangles and even kidnappings.
In 2005, then-Corrie producer Tony Wood announced that his writing team had reached the "difficult decision" to write out the Martin Platt character after two decades on-screen.
"I've been considering my position for some time now as I feel I have so much to achieve," the actor said at the time. "I'm very much looking forward to working on all kinds of other projects.
"I feel my time in The Street has provided me with the perfect platform, and now I can concentrate on producing some exciting work elsewhere."
He's since turned away from acting to pursue his passion as a chef and a cheesemaker, working for multiple Michelin-starred restaurants over the years.
News of his possible return comes as Coronation Street prepares to write out three hugely popular characters, Anna Windass, Aidan Connor and Eva Price.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
