Corrie is about to unleash the biggest week of storylines yet for resident villain Pat Phelan, which culminates in him taking another hostage. But it's not just the shock kidnap we need to watch out for, as the show will be delving much further back into Phelan's backstory too.

When Phelan's daughter Nicola does some digging into his past, she's shocked to hear allegations that he raped her mother, which explains why family friend Lydia was acting so strangely recently.

Phelan is horrified when he's confronted by Nicola, who makes it very clear that she believes the accusations. Nicola also now thinks that Anna Windass has been telling the truth about him all along. Will Phelan's mask slip as the pressure mounts?

2. EastEnders: Max's conscience kicks in (Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One)

Just when we were starting to lose hope that Max Branning could ever be a likeable character again, there's a sudden shift in his revenge storyline. After seeing off Jane Beale, scheming Max suddenly starts struggling with his conscience and realises that it's wrong to keep stringing along Carmel just for insider information about the council.

Drawing a line in the sand, Max pays a visit to evil overlord James Willmott-Brown and makes it clear that he won't be involving Carmel in their plans anymore. But is Max potentially putting himself in danger by turning against the puppetmaster?

3. Emmerdale: 'Who Killed Emma?' takes a new twist (Wednesday at 7pm on ITV)

Are you keeping track of all the clues in the 'Who Killed Emma Barton?' mystery? Expect at least one more this week as the police pay another visit to the village – although based on past form, they're 90% sure to be on completely the wrong track.

As new evidence has come to light in the murder investigation, detectives arrive at the garage to inspect Cain and Ross's tyres in connection with their enquiries. What could it all mean? Is one of them hiding a dark secret?

4. Hollyoaks: Mandy reacts badly to Luke's return (Thursday at 7pm on E4 / Friday at 6.30pm on Channel 4)

He's back – again! After a short break away from our screens over the past few weeks, fan favourite Luke Morgan returns to the centre of the Hollyoaks action – and his top priority is winning back his ex-partner Mandy Richardson. Luke shows how deeply he still cares for Mandy when he finds out about her recent kiss with Tony, leading to a comical fight between the two guys. Which of the soap legends will you be backing?

Later in the week, Mandy is furious to hear that Luke has moved back to the village and sabotages his chances of a job teaching PE at Hollyoaks High. Guilty Mandy later has a change of heart, but with a huge stunt due to rock the school next week, maybe she should have stuck to her guns to keep him out of the firing line!

5. Neighbours: Amy's mysterious behaviour worries Steph (Thursday at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5)

Is Erinsborough's planned Wellness Centre cursed? It's certainly starting to seem that way, with yet another setback this week. When Amy realises that Steph is about to give up on the project due to funding issues, she makes a secretive move and somehow comes up with a cheque for $50,000.

Amy claims that a mystery donor stepped in at the eleventh hour, but when she refuses to reveal their identity, Steph starts to suspect that she's returned to her past as a "lingerie cleaner" to make some quick cash. (Although we doubt the rates are high enough for her to raise $50,000 so quickly!) Amy doesn't react well when accused of this by her friend, but could Steph be on the right track?

6. Coronation Street: Phelan frames Anna for a terrible crime (Friday at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV)

We think we've uncovered the real reason for Corrie's new sixth episode – Pat Phelan just couldn't fit all of his lying and scheming into five! Not content with taking a new hostage and trying to conceal his dark past this week, Phelan also finds the time to frame his old enemy Anna for attempted murder.

When Seb suffers a horrific fall from a ladder while cleaning windows at the solicitors' office, the timing could be seen as suspicious as he's only just had a major argument with Anna.

As the police come calling, Phelan seizes upon his big chance to frame Anna for attempted murder. But who'd accept such a bizarre theory? Well, given the locals' history of believing the wrong person without a scrap of evidence, probably at least half of the Street!

7. EastEnders: Mick and Linda receive devastating news (Friday at 8pm on BBC One)

After ten months of vague threats to "step up" their attempts to seize control of the Queen Vic, Weyland & Co might finally be getting somewhere this week. Willmott-Brown and his minions seem to have the Carters exactly where they want them, when Luke Browning delivers an extortionate bill for repair work that supposedly needs to be done on The Vic.

It's clear that the Carters won't be able to afford this, and their offer of paying in instalments goes down like a lead balloon. Feeling desperate, will Mick and Linda take the easy way out when they're encouraged to sell the pub's leasehold in return for a large pay-off? As it's a one-day-only offer, there won't be long before we find out what they decide...

8. Emmerdale: Concern grows for Moira (Tuesday at 7pm on ITV)

Hats off to Emmerdale for making Moira's surprise labour more than just a cheap 'OMG' moment. This week's episodes continue to explore just how much Moira is struggling as she adjusts to life bringing up the baby that she had no idea about just three weeks ago.

As Moira's secret despair comes to a head, she heads to the hospital with baby Isaac and abandons him there, leading to fears that she could lose her son if social services get involved.

Following some encouragement from Faith, new dad Cain finally gets involved by paying a visit to Moira at the farm. If he's not too busy being a murder suspect, is it time for him to step up to the plate as a father?

9. Hollyoaks: Yasmine gives Lily and Peri an ultimatum (Thursday at 7pm on E4 / Friday at 6.30pm on Channel 4)

Hollyoaks' controversial group self-harm storyline continues this week, but it's becoming increasingly clear that Yasmine doesn't want to play any part in what her friends Lily and Peri are doing. So far Yasmine has been reluctant to voice her disapproval, but that changes when she threatens to expose their dark secret.

Concerned over her two friends hurting themselves, Yasmine urges them to seek some help, before warning that she'll tell Diane and Misbah everything if they don't. Could the truth be revealed sooner rather than later?

10. Home and Away: "Stu Parker" joins Summer Bay... kind of (Thursday at 1.15pm and 6pm on Channel 5)

Neighbours fans who miss the show's noughties cast may want to give the rival Aussie soap a watch this week, with Blair McDonough taking on a guest role. Blair played Ramsay Street's Stu Parker between 2001 and 2006 and is now appearing in Summer Bay for a handful of episodes as Alan Ellis.

Alan is the overprotective father of Mason Morgan's seriously-ill girlfriend Beth, who presents a new obstacle for the pair's relationship when he tries to ban them from seeing each other. Knowing how little time she may have left, Beth tries to stand up to her dad – but will he back down?
