Coronation Street's Chesney Brown gets rushed to hospital next week after being stabbed in shock scenes at the Bistro.

Chesney finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time as the ongoing war between Robert Preston and his old acquaintance Rich turns nastier, with horrifying consequences.

Big episodes airing next Monday see Rich order Robert (Tristan Gemmill) to launder his drugs money at the Bistro, threatening to tell Michelle Connor all about his dark past if he doesn't cooperate.

Rich grabs a broken bottle as the clash spirals badly out of control, but it's Chesney who gets caught in the crossfire as Rich wildly swings the makeshift weapon around and accidentally injures him.

Tragically, the life-or-death moment comes just as Chesney is on a high after finally reuniting with his ex-girlfriend Sinead Tinker.

As Chesney is rushed off to hospital, Robert unburdens himself by telling Michelle about Rich's sinister threats – and he also reluctantly informs her about his own dark past. But how much has Robert been hiding?

Sam Aston, who plays Chesney, revealed: "Chesney comes to the Bistro because he wants to have a word with Daniel. It's nothing confrontational, just to say no hard feelings. He wants to clear the air now him and Sinead are back together.

"As Chesney walks through the door of the Bistro with his good intentions, it's just wrong place, wrong time and Chesney is caught in the crossfire. It's very clever how it's done. Chesney collapses and Daniel is the one who talks him round.

"It was great fun to film. I've been here for quite a long time and I have never done anything like that. It was a challenge because Chesney is making kebabs most of the time, but it was really cool to be involved in something different."

Chesney's stabbing also sparks a major misunderstanding when Sinead sees Daniel cradling his blood-soaked body at the Bistro and mistakenly assumes that he must have been the attacker.

Discussing the change in Chesney and Daniel's relationship, Sam added: "I really get on with Rob Mallard, so it was nice to not be hissing in each other's faces for once!

"Daniel is trying to keep Chesney with it, so it shows that Daniel is a decent person because even after all the stuff they have been through, he sees Chesney in that state and he comes to his aid. They were really nice scenes, it was sweet.

"I can't see them sat in The Rovers having a pint together, but after this, it all depends where it goes in the future. Maybe Chesney can now see eye to eye with Daniel, but I don't know if they necessarily will become best buds."

Coronation Street airs Chesney's stabbing on Monday, July 3 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
