Sue Nicholls, who has played hairdresser Audrey Roberts in Coronation Street for more than three decades, has revealed that she was approached by the producers of Celebrity Big Brother to star in the series.

Her answer? A resounding "no".

When asked by the Daily Star if she would ever take part, she said: "I've told them, 'No'. I couldn't bear it. I don't want to have to do stuff like my teeth in front of half the nation."

Despite her endearing Weatherfield alter ego, Nicholls worried that she'd clash with her celebrity housemates.

She said: "I don't even like people that much. I would be horrible – I would be the worst housemate."

No matter how ill-tempered Nicholls would have been in the Big Brother house, it's unlikely she would have topped the antics of her Corrie co-star Ken Morley.

He was evicted in 2015 for using "unacceptable and offensive language" on multiple occasions in the house.

Amanda Barrie, who played Alma Sedgewick on Corrie, appeared on Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year, while William Roache and Helen Flanagan are rumoured to have also turned down lucrative offers to star on the show.

Meanwhile, events on the Street promise more drama than Big Brother could offer, as Nicholls' Audrey Roberts finally discovers tonight that she's been double crossed by Maria Connor.

Coronation Street airs tonight at 8pm on ITV. Check out the full list of World Cup schedule changes here.
