Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street actor Todd Boyce has revealed his career plans now that he has left the ITV soap.

Boyce has been offing the residents of the Cobbles as serial killer Stephen Reid for a while now, but a dramatic exit for the character has already been filmed and is set to air on screens next week.

Speaking to Digital Spy and other press about what he's got planned for the foreseeable future, Boyce explained that he's got a lot to tide him over until next summer.

"The last week of November I start rehearsals for panto, which runs the last three weeks of December," he said.

"And then Bill Kenwright, who was famously an actor in Corrie before he became a massive theatre producer, has just offered me — without even blinking — the Laurence Olivier part in Sleuth.

"That's going to be a tour starting in Windsor and doing a tour around London, and then coming to The Lowry here [in Salford]. That's going to take me through to the end of June so I'm dead excited about that."

Stephen may be leaving imminently, but it looks like it won't be long before another villain rocks up. Soap boss Iain MacLeod has even shared that they will be an integral part of the storytelling.

"All stories need an antagonist otherwise everybody just bumbles along being nice to each other. There's a limit to how many of those scenes I can watch," he said.

"People need obstacles to their happiness. If you don't have one in your show, you struggle to find those moments of high drama and you end up with external factors landing on people.

"Those are all brilliant stories and w've got several brilliant examples of them in our show at the moment, but a villain just comes in and instantly starts a story out of thin air if you want them to, which is exactly what's happened with Stephen."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
