Costa drive-thru in Little Waltham near Chelmsford to go 24 hours from August this year

A popular Costa drive-thru on the edge of Chelmsford will be going 24 hours from next month in a trial period, the chain as has announced. The coffee shop at the Regiment Business Park on Eagle Way has been open for several years, but now it taking the next step of being open around the clock.

The store is currently open from 6am to 7pm Monday to Saturday and 7am to 6pm on Sundays. The development comes following "customer demand", Costa said, and the 24-hours-a-day trial is understood to be lasting for around six months from the end of August 2024.

New jobs for the site have been advertised for the extra open hours. The chain is looking for night workers who would work 12 hours over the course of Saturday and Sunday nights, and full time workers for Mondays to Fridays.

The chain said there will be set shifts of six hours, with patterns from 6pm-12am or 12am-6am. Starting pay for Baristas is £12, with an additional £1 when working between the hours of 11pm-5am. Starting pay for Barista Maesteos (shift leaders) is £12.33, with an additional £1 when working between the hours of 11pm-5am.

There are a total of five new jobs available; three baristas and two barista maestros. A Costa Coffee spokesperson said: "Following customer demand, we will be trialling a new 24/7 opening time at our Costa Coffee Drive Thru store on Egale Way, Chelmsford from the end of August 2024."
