Manchester's ever-growing skyline could soon see its largest addition to date. Salboy, the developer co-owned by Betfred's Fred Done, has unveiled plans for a new 76-storey skyscraper in the heart of the city.

The grand project is part of the second phase of Salboy's Viadux project, at the former Bauer Millett site off Great Bridgewater Street, near Deansgate. If approved, it could become Manchester's tallest skyscraper, at 241m above the ground.

The skyscraper would include 782 one and two-bedroom apartments. Salboy's latest plans also include a smaller, 23-storey block of apartments, which the developer says would include 133 'affordable' one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments - plus a two-storey commercial building.

Salboy's planned skyscraper could stand with five additional storeys above Renaker's proposed 213m tower, which was expected to become the city's tallest if approved by the town hall. Renaker holds the current record for Manchester's tallest building - the 201m, 65-storey Deansgate Square South Tower.

Planning documents for Salboy's latest propsal state: "The proposed development will deliver 915 residential apartments, of which 133 are affordable homes; flexible retail space; residential amenities; secure cycle parking; public realm improvements and green landscaping; and associated works to the public highway."

The developer adds: "The proposals have been developed with input from a comprehensive and highly experienced team of specialist consultants, with the intention to deliver a unique project which not only maximises the development potential of the site and responds to market demand, but also embraces the site’s unique heritage and delivers key policy objectives and statutory requirements."

Salboy's plans can be viewed on Manchester City Council's planning portal at 139715/FO/2024. Phase one of Salboy's Viadux project, a 40-storey tower off Great Bridgewater Street, is currently in construction and soon expected to be complete.
