The Year 6 SATs are taking place this week. Children are being tested in maths, English grammar, punctuation, spelling and reading. We've adapted maths SATs papers set by the Department for Education and turned them into a quiz to give you an idea on how our children are tested - and so you can see whether you would pass muster yourself!

Under formal exam conditions within their classrooms, children have been tackling three maths papers. Paper one focuses on arithmetic, while papers two and three consist of reasoning questions.

We examined an arithmetic paper that had 36 questions to be answered in 30 minutes. In this test, long division and long multiplication questions carried two marks each, while all other questions were worth one mark each.

Think you could ace a Year 6 maths test?

We've transformed maths SATs papers set by the Department for Education into a quiz to give you a taste of how our children are tested - and to see if you'd make the grade!

Give the test below a go or, if it's not visible, click on the link to our quiz here and it will open in a new window.

Please bear in mind that we've made our questions multiple choice. In a real SATs arithmetic test, children would be expected to calculate the answers themselves without the aid of a calculator.

You can try past maths papers for yourself on the Gov.uk website. Take a look at our guide to the top primary schools in Birmingham.
