Countryfile presenter Ellie Harrison has quit the popular BBC show after 13 years on air in an emotional announcement to fans.

Harrison wrote about her departure in the show's Countryfile magazine, explaining: "There are many things I'll miss. I've come to realise that I don't need to navigate to a whole new ocean or even a new sea, but to chart a new course somewhere in these waters, raising my three wonderful children, growing our family business and following my own creative calling to produce art of my own making.

"The winds of change are blowing, my hands turn the tiller and I close my eyes to take comfort from Invictus: 'I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.' I'll see you again someday."

But who will Harrison be leaving behind, and who else has hosted the programme about rural life?

By far the longest-serving presenter, John Craven has been with the programme since 1989 - joining just a year after its launch.

The former Newsround presenter is an important part of the show to many viewers and has guided a series of newer recruits through its episodes over the years.

Adam Henson

Farmer Adam Henson joined Countryfile in 2001, bringing plenty of experience and authenticity to his reports on rural life.

Henson also runs the hugely popular Cotswold Farm Park.

Matt Baker

Matt Baker first found fame as a Blue Peter presenter, where he was a hit with younger viewers before graduating to the more mature Countryfile in 2009.

Baker, who has also reported on the gymnastics at the Olympics, was runner-up in Strictly Come Dancing 2010 and is in touch with his countryside roots thanks to his family's North East farm.

Tom Heap

Joining the series alongside Baker in 2009 was Tom Heap, who has also worked on Panorama.

He took over the role of Countryfile's investigative reporter from Craven a few years after starting.

Helen Skelton

Baker's Blue Peter co-star Helen Skelton followed him over to Countryfile in 2014 and has mirrored his career in other ways, too, after finishing Strictly 2022 as runner up.

On Blue Peter, she was known for her daring challenges and in Countryfile she has been able to continue exploring her love of the outdoors.

Anita Rani

TV and radio presenter Anita Rani joined the Countryfile crew in 2015, following on from Julia Bradbury who she had previously replaced on consumer show Watchdog.

Rani is another Countryfile star to have swapped wellies for dancing shoes as she took part in Strictly 2015, and she is also a presenter on BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour.

Sean Fletcher

Completing the current Countryfile presenter line-up is Sean Fletcher, who along with Rani joined in 2015.

Fletcher is a fluent Welsh speaker and has also been seen on Songs of Praise, Sunday Morning Live, and Food Detectives as well as Inside Out London.

The long list of former Countryfile presenters has included some big name stars over the years.

BBC sports reporting favourite Clare Balding spent a year with the show from 2011 to 2012, while former star Julia Bradbury, famed for her love of nature, was on air for 10 years until 2014.

Ben Fogle has appeared in two different stints as a Countryfile presenter, and popular Springwatch host Michaela Strachan is also a Countryfile alumni, having spent 10 years there until 2009.
