A disappointed couple say they have been left feeling let down after Manchester Airport closed its Terminal One lounge just days before their holiday.

Andrew and his fiancee are set to jet off to Krakow in Poland on Monday to celebrate their engagement with her parents. They had booked the lounge at Terminal One as a 'treat' to 'kick-start' their special trip - but received an email on Friday evening (April 12) telling them the lounge had closed for 'essential maintenance'.

The couple said they had been left feeling 'annoyed' by the inconcvenience, and said the discount voucher they had been offered felt 'empty' given it only lasts until the end of the year. Manchester Airport said all customers have been fully refunded and apologised for the inconvenience.

"It was the start of a joint celebration - me and my partner and her parents," Andrew told the Manchester Evening News. "We got engaged last year and they haven't been abroad for years, so we wanted to make it special.

"This was supposed to kick start that. It's quite a bit of annoyance and inconvenience for us."

The couple, who are travelling to the airport from Leeds, said they weren't looking for any compensation, but that the discount voucher on a future booking offered by the airprot felt 'empty' given it expires at the end of the year.

A Manchester Airport spokesperson said: “Due to unforeseen circumstances the Escape Lounge in Terminal 1 is temporarily closed for maintenance work. All affected customers have been contacted, fully refunded and given discounts for future visits. The lounge is due to reopen on Tuesday. We apologise for any inconvenience.”
