A Wetherspoons-loving couple have made it their mission to visit all 900 branches in the UK.

Gary and Denise Barnes have travelled over 2,000 miles to make more than 160 visits to Wetherspoons pubs all over the country.

The unusual mission was sparked nine years ago by a trip to a particularly picturesque ‘Spoons.

Gary told Yahoo News: ‘We were planning to go away about nine years ago but it got cancelled due to heavy snow. The next day we woke up and the snow cleared so we booked a babysitter and set off to Harrogate.’

Because the couple’s original plans had fallen through, they were a little short of cash so asked a local taxi driver where they could get a nice bite to eat without breaking the bank.

The cabbie pointed them in the direction on The Winter Gardens – and that’s when the couple’s passion for Wetherspoons was born.

Now, the couple, who appreciate the chain’s great value for money and the variety on the menu, tend to book a day away and then drop in for a ’Spoons session.

Gary added: ‘One day of the month we’ll go somewhere, we book it and go. Nine times out of 10 the places have a Wetherspoons.’

As an expert, Gary suggests the best night to go is a Tuesday – steak night.

He told Yahoo News: ‘It’s such good value for money. I would say go in on a Tuesday because it’s steak night. It’s only about £9.99.’

Denise is also a big fan of steak night, and she tends to opt for the Aberdeen Angus steak.

When asked to pick their favourite branch, Gary and Denise couldn’t decide.

Gary said: ‘We went down to London and the Knight’s Templar, that’s a nice big one. And the one in Blackpool is nice, The Velvet Coaster, it’s strange because you go in and it’s all glass.’

The Caley Picturehouse in Edinburgh was also a hit with the couple.

With more than 700 Wetherspoons still to see, the couple hope to organise a trip to the biggest Wetherspooons in the country, housed in Ramsgate, Kent.
