Coventry City kit latest, sponsor and season tickets update as Ben Sheaf to Man Utd transfer addressed

It’s all quiet on the Coventry City transfer front at the minute but that doesn’t mean there’s not plenty going on behind the scenes as the Sky Blues look to add strength and quality to boost Mark Robins’ squad.

The rumour mill is already in overdrive with the Championship club having been linked with a stack of players, while speculation continues about contracted players who may be wanted by higher placed clubs or looking to move on to get guaranteed game time elsewhere.

Season tickets have been selling like hot cakes and fans are eagerly awaiting news on next season’s new kit, which is expected to be another hugely popular design from Hummel. Here sky Blues reporter Andy Turner answers some of the big questions of the week in CoventryLive’s regular Q&A.

Do you see any kit/sponsor release dates coming up or is it all still in the pipeline and will be later down the line? Ideally, we can get some kits for Father’s Day.

AT: I understand the club are currently negotiating for the best possible deal with a new sponsor and once that’s agreed then they will be able to proceed and reveal the new kit. Can’t see it before Father’s Day but hopefully before the end of the month.

What are the chances of us playing in a version of the Talbot T kit next season?

AT: I have no idea James but I reckon it would be a huge hit if they unveiled that one.

Any update on a Dennis Lawrence replacement?

AT: Nothing other than the job has been formally advertised and, no doubt, people will be or have been interviewed. I’d expect an appointment before the players return for pre-season, which is just a few short weeks away.

Any basis in the rumours that Ben Sheaf is likely to sign for Man United. Fee circa £20m?

AT: Well put it this way, I haven’t pursued it and neither has our sister title the MEN, which should tell you all you need to know.

Any idea on how well/badly ST sales are going?

AT: Yeah, I’m told they’re flying, not far off last season’s total of 19,500 already, which is great news. Expected to top 20,000 and hopefully 22/23,000.

Any transfers that you think may have legs? Any domestic names popping up?

AT: I have it on good authority north of the border that City are keen on Aberdeen’s deep-lying playmaker Connor Barron but they’d face a lot of competition. He’s out of contract but said to be available for around £500,000 compensation fee. Harrison Burrows (Posh) keeps cropping up.

Is it true Doug’s fumbled the Monzo sponsorship deal?

AT: I understand the club have spoken to a couple of potential sponsors, Monzo being one of them, and will obviously be trying to get the right/best deal. I’ve heard an energy company is the other.

Any news on any other potential replacements for O’Hare, after the absolutely ridiculous fee wanted by relegated Huddersfield for Jack Rudoni. I’ve been hearing, O’Hare to Luton? To replace Barkley who went to Villa for £5 mill.

AT: Nothing concrete at the minute. Rudoni fits in terms of profile, great age (22) etc but suggested fee is crazy money. Although at the higher end of the age spectrum, PNE’s Browne is on a free and certainly knows the division. Nothing on O’Hare. I suspect he’s weighing up options.

Anything re Godden, Allen, Palmer about a possible exit. Saw a rumour that Palmer had turned down a new deal which I thought was very odd.

AT: Nothing at the minute other than last month’s reported interest in Godden from Charlton. I think he will be looking for a move to get regular game time. MR said he was looking forward to Allen being fit next term, suggesting he’s part of his plans. Not heard the KP rumour.

Are there any talks on a new Sheaf deal so we aren’t forced to sell next summer for a reduced fee?

AT: I think it will be an interesting summer re Sheaf. Assuming he stays, I am sure the club will be on it in terms of his contract situation (which runs until June 2026).

I hadn’t seen Liam Kitching play but thought at the time that the fee was eye watering. I see the quality we get for the same or less, Tats and I think Milan is worth every penny, but do you think we should be spending £5m on a league one player with a year left on his contract?

AT: I presume you’re referring to Harrison Burrows. He’s very highly rated and I guess it all depends on how much Doug has/ or is willing to spend. I can’t see Darragh MacAnthony settling for anything less, that’s for sure.
