A Coventry man who discovered he had won a Porsche minutes before he was going to play in a cricket tournament won't ever drive the vehicle. Ali Choudhry was bowled over when he was told that he had bagged the incredible prize worth £55,000.

Ali was told on FaceTime that he had won a BOTB (Best of the Best) Instant Wins Competition, where tickets start from 99p. Presenter Christian Williams revealed that he had won a Porsche 718 Cayman.

Ali said that when he found out he had scooped the £55,000 prize he was 'shaking.' He bagged a Porsche 718 Cayman, which reaches a top speed of 182mph.

But he won't be driving it as he has opted to take the cash alternative. He said: “I turned my phone off! I am still in shock and when it came up I started shaking and thinking this cannot be real.”

Ali said the cash would 'go a long way.' He said: “I will try and help out my parents because they are going through quite a difficult time and they are quite old, so I would probably use the money to help them out.

“We need a couple of repairs done in the house, so I think I will just put it towards that. It is going to be really good for my family.”

He added: “I am also in the market for a smaller car, so the cash might also help me to do that. I would be worried about maintaining a car like the Porsche.”

Presenter Christian said: “I think there is something really special about telling someone they have won a car like this, and even if they do opt for the cash alternative, you know there is a little bit of a thrill to hear the word Porsche.

“But I am so glad that Ali has been able to make this decision for his family. It was a lot of fun to talk to him and catch him before his cricket match.”

He added: “It is obvious that his family means a great deal to him, and I hope this money does bring them an extra dose of cheer. He sounds very much like it is well deserved.”
