A school in Coventry has infuriated parents after they slapped a ban on coats.

Cardinal Wiseman School sent a text to parents to inform the that outdoor coats would not be permitted on the grounds.

But parents have blasted the move, labelling it “ridiculous” that pupils are not allowed to protect themselves from Britain’s ever-changing weather.

Mum Tracy Donaldson, who received a text from the school informing her of the new policy, told the Coventry Telegraph: “It is a ridiculous thing, especially trying to tell my child what they can and can’t wear.

“There are also children that have conditions meaning they are always cold. What about those people?”

Tracy said that the school should deal with issues like bullying before punishing children for waring coats.

She added: “This is Britain and the weather changes every hour.

“I don’t even know when the summer term is, I think it could be starting from today until they break up in July.

“But because it was raining on Monday morning, my son went to school in his coat.

“So we will see if he comes home later than normal if he has been punished or not.”

A spokesperson for Cardinal Wiseman School said: ‘This is the first year that all students across the whole school have worn blazers as well as jumpers during the summer. The school requires all students to wear blazers as stated in our uniform policy.

‘Pupils are permitted to wear coats on their way to and from school but not within the grounds during the summer term unless weather conditions, such as rain, mean they are necessary. This is in line with the protocol of numerous other secondary schools in the city.’
