Yahoo News 'Cracking' North Yorkshire Wetherspoon pub ranked in UK's top 10 - see why
Across the UK, there are around 805 JD Wetherspoon pubs but with plenty of them dotted across the North East and North Yorkshire, there’s no doubt one of them is your local.
But just how high do you rate your nearest Wetherspoon? One pub in North Yorkshire has officially been revealed as one of the best in the UK, according to its percentage of “excellent” 5-star reviews.
The Buck Inn in Northallerton was ranked in the UK’s top 10, using ratings and Google reviews collected by research experts at Q.R. Code Generator.

It received an impressive 54.97% of "excellent" reviews (at the time the data was analysed by Q.R. Code Generator).
The pub was opened by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in 2021 as the Richmond MP after being transformed following £2.6 million worth of investment.
The opening of The Buck Inn three years ago also created 70 full and part-time jobs.
At the time, Sunak said: “I very much welcome this significant investment in our High Street and the creation of these new job opportunities.
“The refurbishment has been carried out to a very high standard and it is good see the pub’s history recognised through the retention of its traditional name and the celebration of that history in the décor and wall displays.”

The pub also has a lot of history attached to it, according to its profile on the Wetherspoon website.
“The former Buck Inn is part of a row of long-standing properties at the north end of High Street, close to the grade I listed parish church,” it explains.
“On the 1894 OS map, the site of this old inn is marked as a public house, but unnamed.
“However, The Buck Inn is recorded in trade directories of 1893 and 1890, when Mrs Elizabeth Brockhill was the licensee.
“The inn is also in Pigot’s much earlier directory of 1829, yet is not one of the inns listed in Baines’ directory of 1823.”

On Google reviews, The Buck Inn currently has a rating of 4.2 out of 5 stars from 882 reviews.
One local shared: “I'm an avid supporter of spoons but will call it out when they fall short. The buck however is cracking, just like most I visit. Friendly staff, good service and good beers. Food also well up to standard. Great little outside area and plenty of seating inside too. It's my nearest spoons so I'm glad it's this good.”
Additionally, someone on Tripadvisor posted this review: “Just what we wanted. Good beer and soft drinks, light lunch. Just the job without spending too much. You know what you're getting with Wetherspoons and it's usually decent food & drink and great value for money.”
