Cranberries star Dolores O'Riordan laid to rest alongside her father

The Cranberries star Dolores O'Riordan has been laid to rest alongside her father following her funeral mass in County Limerick.

The singer's voice filled the Church of Saint Ailbe in her home town of Ballybricken as the service opened with Ave Maria, a cover she recorded with Luciano Pavarotti.

O'Riordan's boyfriend and fellow DARK band member Ole Koretsky was among mourners at the service.

The 46-year-old's ex-husband Don Burton and their three children - Taylor, Molly and Dakota - joined the singer's mother Eileen, her sister Angela and brothers Terence, Brendan, Donal, Joseph and PJ in the small rural church.

During the service, Canon Liam McNamara said O'Riordan's voice was "worth its weight in gold".

"Her kind personality and beautiful singing voice earned for her numerous admirers," he said.

"It must be added that the numbers she rescued from the darkness of depression are impossible to count.

"No words are adequate to describe Dolores or to accurately state the influence for good she has been over the years."

In his homily, Canon McNamara recalled meeting a young Dolores in 1989 when she was singing and playing keyboard in the church.

He said the singer had a "unique respect for everybody", adding that "no words are adequate" to describe her.

There was an eruption of applause when The Cranberries' When You're Gone played as the service came to an end.

The service was followed by a private family burial, in which she was buried alongside her father Terence Patrick O'Riordan, who died in 2011 after a long battle with cancer.

The funeral service was broadcast on local radio, and dozens of stations played When You're Gone simultaneously following the 12 o'clock news.

O'Riordan was found dead in a London hotel room last week .

Police have said her death was not suspicious and a coroner is awaiting the results of "various tests" following a post-mortem examination.
