Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that his Tottenham side consider more than just the threat of Cristiano Ronaldo when they face Real Madrid, but his record may make that easier said than done.

In 16 games against Tuesday’s opponents, Ronaldo has never lost and bagged himself eight goals, only scoring more against one other English club – Aston Villa (nine).

Six of his eight goals against Spurs came as a Manchester United player, with a memorable Old Trafford brace in during a 5-2 win on the way to the 2009 Premier League title.

Having left for Madrid at the end of that season, it is perhaps more impressive that, having only faced Tottenham twice in the eight years since, Spurs still rank inside the top 20 teams in terms of goals scored against.

That then becomes more impressive when you consider the Portuguese had only just turned 19 when he scored his first goal against Tottenham, and was still just 24-years-old – and well ahead of his goalscoring peak – when he left Old Trafford for the Spanish capital.

Pochettino is of course right when he says the former Manchester United man is far from the only threat his side will face in the Champions League, however, with an impressive record the striker will be keen on improving, Spurs' back line could be facing a Ronaldo in red-hot form.
